The Founders
Mara & Léo
Mara grew up in her grandmother's kitchen in Seville, where rosewater, bitter orange and warm bread taught her that memory lives in the nose. Léo trained as an industrial chemist in Lyon but spent every holiday in the lavender country of Provence, sketching formulas in the margins of train tickets.
They met by accident — both reaching for the last outdoor table at a café near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. One espresso turned into a four-hour conversation about why a single scent can stop you in the street. They were married eighteen months later.
Today they compose every fragrance together at a shared perfume organ in their Pasadena studio: Léo builds the architecture, Mara writes the soul.
The Journey
A decade, six countries,
one idea taking shape
The café table. A shared love of old apothecaries and the realisation that we both kept perfume bottles long after they were empty, just to remember.
A honeymoon spent in the perfume capital of the world. We took our first blending class together and didn't stop talking about it for a year. The seed of Citrus Royale was planted in a sun-warmed orchard near Vallauris.
Lost in the back streets of the Grand Bazaar, we followed our noses to a tiny oud merchant who let us smell resins aged longer than our marriage. Noir Absolu and Amber Nocturne were born here, in spirit if not yet in formula.
A slower year. We rented a flat above the sea, set up a card table as a makeshift lab, and made our first fragrance we were proud to give away — the ancestor of Cedar & Sea.
Rain on the canals, jasmine spilling over a garden wall at midnight. We decided, on a vaporetto at 2 a.m., that it was time to build something real. Jasmine Noir is that night, bottled.
The Scent Atelier opens its doors — a fragrance house, a wedding atelier, and a perfume bar. Home, at last, with the whole journey on the shelf.

Every blend macerates a minimum of six weeks before it's poured — far longer than the industry standard — so each note settles into its truest form.
Honestly Sourced
We buy our materials from growers and houses we've visited in person. No animal testing — ever — and no shortcuts on quality.
Personally Poured
There is no factory. Mara and Léo pour, label and seal every flacon by hand in the Pasadena studio.
